American Online Personality Fined Following Large-Scale Electric Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales police have issued a fine against an American social media personality and served two traffic infringement notices for reported negligent driving following a swarm of e-bike riders gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on Tuesday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A gathering of around 40 people operating e-bikes and motorcycles proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"There was a risk of serious injury or fatalities," remarked a senior police official the officer on Wednesday.

Police said they did not chase right away the group out of safety concerns but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the city gardens, where they dispersed.

Penalties Issued for Influencer

On Saturday, police announced they had issued the American online personality known as Sur Ronster, twenty-six, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (with no death or previous bodily harm), carrying a fine of $562 and three demerit points each, connected to the bridge ride-out. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality reportedly has more than 3.4m subscribers on YouTube and over 1.2 million on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The content creator spoke with a major newspaper this week after the incident spread rapidly on news sites and social media, stating he was sorry for giving "bike life" a negative image.

"I accept the blame. It was among the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he told the publication. "I am a visitor here, and I intend to abide by the laws and norms of Sydney. When I decided to do a meet and greet it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to say hi under the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had two choices: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we turn around, basically, before we’re on the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to turn around."

Broader Context on E-Bike Regulation

The increase of electric bicycles on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that illegal ebikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Kids have done stupid things on bikes ever since the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are presenting at our ERs are truly severe," he said. "We’ve got to make sure we stop these things coming into the country [and] police are given the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

NSW reported 226 injuries related to ebikes in the previous year. But, in the initial half of 2025, that number surged to 233 injuries plus four deaths.
