US President Trump has declared he is increasing duties on products imported from Canadian sources after the region of Ontario broadcast an anti-tariff ad using ex-President Ronald Reagan.

In a online update on Saturday, the President described the advert a "misrepresentation" and condemned Canadian authorities for not taking down it prior to the MLB finals.

"Due to their serious distortion of the facts, and aggressive move, I am raising the duty on Canadian goods by 10 percent in addition to what they are being charged now," he stated.

Subsequent to the President on last Thursday withdrew from trade negotiations with Canada, the Doug Ford said he would take down the advert.

The Province Position

Ontario Leader Ford declared on last Friday that he would pause his territory's anti-tariff commercial series in the US, informing journalists that he made the decision after talks with PM Mark Carney "in order that commercial discussions can continue".

He noted it would remain broadcast over the weekend, during contests for the baseball championship, which includes the Toronto Blue Jays against the Dodgers.

Commercial Background

Canada is the sole G7 nation that has not reached a agreement with the United States since Trump started seeking to impose significant duties on items from primary trading partners.

The US has already imposed a thirty-five percent duty on each Canadian products - though many are exempt under an present trade deal. It has also applied industry-specific duties on Canadian items, featuring a 50% duty on metal products and 25 percent on automobiles.

In his post, published while he was traveling to Asia, Trump appeared to state he was including 10 percent to these duties.

75% of Canadian overseas sales are sent to the America, and the province is home to the bulk of Canada's vehicle industry.

Ronald Reagan Commercial Details

The advertisement, which was paid for by the Ontario authorities, quotes late President Reagan, a Republican and symbol of American conservatism, stating tariffs "harm all Americans".

The video takes excerpts from a 1987 broadcast that centered on foreign trade.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is charged with maintaining the late president's heritage, had condemned the advert for using "selective" recordings and claimed it distorted the former president's remarks. It further noted the provincial government had not sought permission to use it.

Current Tensions

In his post on social media on Saturday, Donald Trump claimed that the commercial should have been removed earlier.

"The Commercial was to be pulled RIGHT AWAY, but they kept it broadcasting yesterday during the MLB finals, realizing that it was a FRAUD," he posted, while flying to Malaysia.

Doug Ford had before pledged to broadcast the Reagan advert in each GOP-controlled area in the America.

Each of Trump and Mark Carney will be attending the ASEAN in the Malaysian nation, but the President told journalists traveling with him aboard the presidential plane that he does not have any "desire" of speaking with his Canadian counterpart during the journey.

In his update, the President also accused Canada of attempting to affect an future Supreme Court lawsuit which could halt his complete tariff regime.

The case, to be reviewed by the American judiciary in the coming weeks, will rule on whether the import taxes are lawful.

On Thursday, Trump also condemned, claiming that the commercial was created to "interfere" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

Baseball Championship Connection

The Reagan ad is not the sole way that the province – home of the Blue Jays – is using the World Series as a opportunity to criticise Donald Trump's duties.

In a recording published on last Friday, Doug Ford and Gavin Newsom Gavin Newsom humorously agreed on stakes about which club would triumph the finals.

Both men consistently bantered about import taxes in the video, with the Premier vowing to provide Newsom a can of syrup if the LA Dodgers win.

"The import tax might set me back a few extra bucks at the frontier currently, but it'll be justified," he wrote.

In reply, Newsom suggested Doug Ford to continue enabling American-produced beverages to be sold in regional beverage outlets, and promised to deliver "our premium wine" if the Jays triumph.

They ended their dialogue each saying: "Here's to a great World Series, and a tax-free alliance between Ontario and the state."
