Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt ready to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the movie, commenting that he cannot recall "any day without laughter".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles judge ruled to block the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A court order placed a embargo on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the result of homicide, with a official listing noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the deaths, public personalities expressed divergent comments.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing controversial claims that were widely condemned by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the detractors last week. Talking on his program, Rogan labeled the statements as "disappointing" and suggested they demonstrated a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an associate should have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the passing was made.
