Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
