Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
