Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Continuous Crude Oil Supplies to India in Defiance of American Sanctions

Amid a unambiguous statement to the United States, President Vladimir Putin stated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to maintain “uninterrupted” supplies of crude oil to India. These remarks came when Putin and Modi met in Delhi and declared their bilateral ties were “resilient to outside influence.”

A Message For the United States

This affirmation, delivered Friday, was widely seen to be a direct challenge at western countries, who have repeatedly attempted to pressure New Delhi into scaling back its historical ties with Moscow. This comes is in response to previous US actions, notably additional import duties on India due to its buying of discounted Russian crude.

“Our nation is a trustworthy source of energy resources and all necessary for the development of India’s energy sector,” he stated. “Moscow stands willing to keep ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of energy for the rapidly growing Indian economy.”

Modi, though he did not referencing crude directly, reinforced the sentiment by noting that “energy security has been a robust and vital pillar of the Indo-Russian partnership.”

Questioning Washington's Stance

Prior to the talks, via a television interview, Putin had questioned American pressure over India's energy purchases. He argued, “When Washington can claim the privilege to buy our atomic materials, then why can't India have the same privilege?”

This trip was his first journey to India since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi undertook a deliberate show to display that the personal rapport between the heads of state persisted strongly.

A Warm Welcome

In a unusual step, the Indian PM welcomed directly Putin right off the plane. The two embraced warmly like longtime companions before holding a one-on-one meal together.

The Indian prime minister referred to India's alliance with Russia as “a lodestar” and added it was “based on reciprocal esteem and strong faith.”

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

The meeting resulted in several significant pacts in the fields of military and economic cooperation. One significant result was the finalization of an economic cooperation programme that runs to 2030, which targets to double mutual trade to a hundred billion USD each year by the 2030 deadline.

Furthermore vowed to restructure their strategic cooperation. While Russia continues to be India's primary exporter of arms, its share has reduced lately as India aims to broaden its sources.

The official release stressed an agreement on the co-development of cutting-edge weapons platforms, even if specific reference of systems like the Sukhoi Su-57 were left out.

In conclusion, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that in the “present intricate, tense, and unpredictable global landscape, their relationship stay strong to outside forces.”
