Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be real Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of the year.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession well outside his area.
He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.
However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.
Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the incident and booed after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with one another going forward."
Tete had handed the visitors a early advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second-half performance.
Former top-flight keeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He's a great squad member, he's a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."
'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
He said after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to stay more composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor loss and it is tough to take."
'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.
Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my interest lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a bit of additional time. Then it was all about attempting to make the right contact and get it on target. I felt a good sense, the moment it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint club record matching 1994 and 2003.
They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to play before the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have come since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.
"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Tottenham have lost four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He must accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a major team with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
