The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
