The Pharaohs Bench Mohamed Salah as Angola Face Afcon Exit.

A thrilling set-piece action from the match.

The Angolan winger delivered a delightful free-kick against the post as Angola and Egypt played out a draw.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester City counterpart Omar Marmoush watched from the bench as Group B winners Egypt were held to a draw with Angola at the Afcon 2025.

The record winners, having clinched top spot, fielded an entirely changed starting XI and were missing a clinical finish in Agadir.

Angola, who required a victory to keep their hopes alive, will now face a nervous wait to see if their solitary draw is enough to qualify for the knockout stage as one of the four best-placed third-place teams.

Several other nations are already guaranteed at least third place in their respective groups, all having three points.

Game Highlights

Winger Fredy struck the outside of a post for Angola shortly after the second half, while Egypt's substitute – one of three halftime changes by the Pharaohs – stung goalkeeper Hugo Marques' palms with a shot from inside the box.

Salah and Marmoush had scored earlier in the tournament in victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, in turn.

Egypt will remain in Agadir to face a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their next rival to be confirmed after the group stage concludes on Wednesday.

In the other Group B finale, South Africa's victory over Zimbabwe sent Bafana Bafana through automatically, putting Angola in a precarious position.

Egypt Feel Salah and Marmoush Absence

The Egyptian captain watching the match from the sidelines.

The Liverpool star observed Egypt fail to score in an Afcon match for the first time since the 2021 final.

With top spot secured, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan might have hoped for a more convincing attacking performance from his rotated side.

Mostafa Mohamed, who netted four goals at the 2023 finals, created an early chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the defender directed his header over the target.

Angola, making seven changes themselves, almost went ahead when Chico Banza linked up with Mabululu before firing a low drive wide.

The first half ended without a single effort on target, although Fredy caused goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action with a powerful long-range attempt.

The Palancas Negras skipper was the likeliest source, watching a set-piece beat the goalkeeper but clatter against the crossbar.

At the other end, Salah Mohsen was stunned after nearly prodding in a cross, only for the goal to be ruled offside.

Late efforts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy failed to break the deadlock, ensuring the match ended goalless.

For Angola, quarter-finalists in 2023, their inconsistent performances in Morocco will lead to scrutiny about their mid-tournament managerial change.
